A troupe of cheerleaders with learning disabilities has secured a sponsor to allow it to compete in the world championships in the US.
Bradford health plan company Sovereign Health Care has agreed to be corporate backers of The Jewels, which was set up by Bradford District Care Trust.
The £30,000 deal will allow the troupe to take part in the Cheerleading World Championships in Florida next month.
Glenn Stocks, project manager at Bradford District Care Trust, said: “Sovereign Health Care’s very generous donation will go a long way to ensuring The Jewels follow their dreams to perform on the world stage. Not only will the donation go towards covering the costs, it will also help provide memories of a lifetime.”
Members of the 20-strong squad are perfecting their routines as they prepare to perform in front of thousands of people.
Russ Piper, Sovereign Health Care chief executive, said: “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for The Jewels’ athletes and we are delighted that we are able to help them represent the UK in this international tournament.
“Being part of The Jewels means a great deal to each and every one of the athletes and their families, and to make it to this stage of the tournament is a fantastic achievement.
“We are proud of our long history of charitable giving and always look to encourage good health, healthy living and a community focus – and The Jewels embody this. We wish them well and look forward to seeing how they progress both in Florida and the future.”
Mr Stocks said: “We would also like to thank the many members of the public who have donated money to the Jewels.”
