Alzheimer’s Research UK, the UK’s leading dementia research charity, has received a boost of £1,500 from the Bradford-based Sovereign Health Care Charitable Trust. This generous donation will be used towards pioneering research to find ways to diagnose, prevent, treat and cure dementia.

Russ Piper, Chief Executive of Sovereign Health Care, explained the inspiration behind supporting Alzheimer’s Research UK:
“We are delighted to make this contribution towards Alzheimer’s Research UK’s vital dementia research. Funding for research into this devastating condition lags far behind that of other serious diseases and we hope our donation will help to make a difference.

“As a national provider of health care plans for both personal and corporate clients, we are proud of our long history of donations through our Charitable Trust. In the past six years alone, the Sovereign Health Care Charitable Trust has donated in excess of £3.5 million to community and health related charities.”

“The Sovereign Health Care Charitable Trust has shown enduring support to us over the past ten years and it is greatly appreciated. Some of their contributions have gone towards research projects at our network centre at the University of Leeds. This additional donation is very important to us and will pay for another 75 hours of world-class dementia research.

“There are over 5,000 people in Bradford living with dementia today and over 820,000 across the UK. These numbers are forecast to rise substantially in the next generation yet dementia research is desperately underfunded and we rely entirely on donations. Research is the only answer to defeat dementia.”
