Sovereign is a Bradford-based company, which has been concerned with the health and wellbeing of local people for over 145 years and this ethos is reflected by the community organisations and charities we support. In general, we favour interventions that touch people’s lives and clearly make a difference. The grants we award are usually quite modest – a few thousand pounds at a time – which means we can help a broader range of causes, rather than offering large grants to only a few.

Priorities

Sovereign Health Care funds work associated with health and wellbeing that is wholly charitable and usually undertaken either by registered charities or by organisations that have been established for charitable purposes, are properly constituted and have a bank account. In terms of specific diseases and conditions, we give priority to those that are particularly prevalent in Bradford, especially: heart disease; chest/lung disease; lung cancer; stroke; diabetes; breast cancer; bowel cancer; prostate cancer; and oral cancer.

We are prepared to consider applications from local charities, voluntary organisations and community groups. The majority of grants made are for services and activities within West Yorkshire, with a marked bias towards Bradford.

We are also prepared to consider applications from national charities if there is a clear benefit to people in Bradford and the surrounding area, preferably through the delivery of services locally.
