We take great pride in paying our customers claims promptly and efficiently. We aim to process all claims within three working days of receipt (plus the time needed to settle in the banking system) ensuring you receive your money promptly. You can choose to have your claims paid by direct credit into a bank account or by cheque. As long as you claim within six months of the date of your treatment or the completion date of your in-patient treatment we will be happy to process your claim.
Once you’ve taken out a Sovereign Health Care cash plan you can claim immediately as we will waive the usual 13 week qualifying period. You can claim straight away for treatment received on or after the date on your policy certificate. Cover for all benefits is immediate except for the maternity/adoption benefit which has a 52 week qualifying period. Pre-existing conditions (a condition that existed prior to joining) are not covered except for optical, dental, chiropody/podiatry and health screening benefits.
Making a claim is simple. There are three different types of claim dependent upon what you’re claiming for. For more details on how to make a claim, select the type of claim you’re making from the options below and follow the instructions.
If you would like to make a claim and you don't have a claim form you can request one by either:

It depends upon your chosen level of cover and the benefit you're claiming for. See the schedule of benefits for full details. All benefits, with the exception of hospital stays, recuperation and maternity/adoption, pay up to 50% of the costs incurred by you up to your cover level maximum in one benefit year. Any hospital stay benefits are paid on either a per day/per night basis up to the limit of your policy. The recuperation benefit is paid as a set amount dependent upon your level of cover. The maternity/adoption benefit pays a fixed amount dependant upon your cover level and has a 52 week qualifying period.
You can claim for treatment received anywhere in the world from a qualified practitioner. For example if you buy your glasses whilst you're abroad, you can claim for these under your Sovereign Health Care cash plan. Claims paid for treatment received outside the UK are paid in pounds sterling at the prevailing exchange rate on the date Sovereign Health Care settles your claim.
Direct credit is an easy way to have your claims paid straight into a bank account of your choice. Setting up direct credit on your policy means that you don't have the hassle of having to pay a cheque into the bank and then waiting for it to clear. Also you don't have to worry about cheques getting lost or delayed in the post.
If you would like your claims to be paid by direct credit in the future simply download and complete a direct credit form and return it to:
