Business Regulation - Needs Rules and Reality.

Fact
The Display Screen Equipment regulations 1992 (amended 2002), state that employees who use a VDU are entitled to an eye test at the employer’s cost on a regular basis. Furthermore if special corrective spectacles are required then these must be provided by the employer.

Reality
The term VDU may seem old fashioned, but today numerous businesses rely on their employees using computers on a daily basis. The requirement to provide payment for eye tests and possibly spectacles is a cost that is likely to grow. Sovereign Health Care can help you manage these costs.

Fact
The average recruitment cost of filling a vacancy per employee is £8,200 when the associated labour turnover costs are also taken into account.

Reality
Staff recruitment can be difficult and time consuming at best, and retaining staff can be affected by a variety of situations. Healthcare benefits such as traditional Private Medical Insurance can be expensive to provide and therefore only offered to a limited range of employees. Sovereign has a range of Health Schemes at affordable cost, allowing some form of healthcare to be offered to all employees, and therefore improving your benefits package and supporting recruitment and retention of staff.

Fact
The number of employers reporting an increase in stress-related absence continued to increase last year, with 46%, reporting an increase, compared to a 39% increase the previous year.  The average cost of sickness remained almost static at £598 per employee per year, compared to last year’s figure of £601.

Reality
By providing benefits that include specialist consultation, access to telephone help lines and face to face counselling, employers are taking proactive steps to reduce absence in  the workplace and help meet their duty of care responsibilities. Furthermore with some stress caused by factors outside of work, the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) element of Sovereign go-active also gives benefits to an employee’s partner.
