When Leeds Hospitals Charity got in touch to ask us to consider supporting an upgrade to the neurology day unit at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, we were all ears.
The team there told us the unit was originally designed as an in-patient ward and consequently, there was no reception or seating area for patients waiting to be treated. Patients with neurological conditions often spend several hours there at a time, and many are often anxious about their treatments or symptoms. The environment was tired, dated, and did not help them to feel relaxed.
Weâre so proud to have supported this project through our Community Programme, and following a donation of £30,000, the unit has now been refurbished with a light and airy waiting area, new furniture and plants to create a more relaxing environment. Weâre sure this will make a huge difference to patients at what can be a very difficult time
